Alcatraz: Life on the Rock is a traveling exhibition that tells the legendary Alcatraz Island story through rare artifacts and interactive displays. You'll see re-created prison cells, watch historic footage and view authentic memorabilia as you explore the island's military, cultural and natural history.

Alcatraz Exhibit

Walk through the exhibit and get a first-hand look at the following:

  • an original letter written by Robert "Birdman" Stroud when he was an Alcatraz prisoner
  • a baseball with initials signed in blood, found near the Alcatraz exercise yard
  • an Alcatraz shank, made from a butter knife, which was ceased during a fight in the prison yard
  • video screens featuring historic footage and stories from Alcatraz residents, administrators and historians
  • a prison phone allowing you to listen to narrated stories and view images of the inmates
